Privacy Policy
Break the Tie · Last updated 13 September 2026
The short version. There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email, or phone number. We store the two photos you post and the votes they receive, nothing else. You can delete any question at any time, and the photos are removed from our servers when you do.
What we collect
- The photos you post. Two images per question, uploaded so they can be shown to the people you ask.
- The question text you write or choose from a preset.
- Votes. Which of the two options was picked, and whether the vote came from a shared link or from inside the app.
- A random device identifier generated when you install the app. It is not your advertising ID and it is not linked to you. It exists so the app knows which questions are yours.
- A random browser cookie for people who vote from a shared link, so the same browser is not counted twice.
What we do not collect
- No name, email address, phone number, or password — there is no account to create.
- No location, no contacts, no browsing history.
- No access to your photo library beyond the two images you choose yourself.
Who can see your photos
Anyone you send the link to can open it and vote while the question is open. If you also let the question appear in the in-app Help queue, people using the app may see it there. Votes are anonymous in both directions: you never learn who voted, and voters never see the result.
Once a question closes, the link stops showing the photos. Photos are served through short-lived signed links and the storage bucket is not publicly readable.
Deleting your question
Open Mine, tap the bin icon on any question, and confirm. This removes the photos from our storage, removes the votes, and makes the shared link stop working for everyone. It cannot be undone. Deleting the app removes the on-device copies but does not delete anything from our servers, so delete your questions first if that matters to you.
Content checks
Uploaded photos are screened automatically for explicit and violent content before they can be seen. Anyone can report a question, and two reports hide it automatically. These checks are automated; no one browses your photos for fun.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to count how often core actions happen — a question posted, a vote recorded, a choice made. These are counts, not content. We do not send your photos or your question text to analytics.
Children
Break the Tie is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Please do not post photos of children.
Where data is stored
Photos and records are stored on Amazon Web Services in the Asia Pacific (Seoul) region.
Your rights
Because there is no account, deletion is the control we can offer directly, and it is immediate. If you need something else — a copy of what is stored, or help removing a question you have lost access to — email us and we will handle it. Please include the link to the question, since we have no other way to identify it.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
